notes:

Director, Ty Blesch, called for a shot of a fairy princes walking amongst her guards and advisors.  One by one, her retinue slow to a frozen stop as she continues forward, winding her way towards camera.

To accomplish this shot, I established marks and walking paths by having the entire group walk together.  This helped us visualize the shot as it would finally appear and to determine where the "freezes" would occur.

After setting marks on the ground for each actor, I had each walk through their move separately, walking all the way past camera.  Their freezes would be created later in post.

As our princess walked through the scene, crew members held and removed a sequence of c-stands that provided eye-line focal points for the actress.

I purposely chose shots in which the retinue was lit by cloudy sky and the princess by direct sun over her shoulder to visually separate her.

In post, I layered each of the characters in After Effects, defining each layer in 3D as well to support a “rack focus” gaussian blur.  The "princess" layer had its 3D position animated over time to move her forward in the layers.

Finally, I processed the finished composite with my Magic Bullet preset.
