Doritos - "Rescue"
Writer / director Mark Henderson came to me with his creative concept for a Dorito's spec spot. I thought it was fun and clever enough to spend a couple pro-bono days on.
We scheduled the shoot over one day with only the sun and reflectors, using the vastly shifting fall-season light to creative effect. Note the use of late-afternoon light on the moments when our hero is in the "magical realm" of pursuing the cart.
Mark and I recorded some Foley of the shopping cart and I cut, graded, and sound designed the finished :30 spot.
Chevy Cruze . spec spot
I shot this fun spec spot for director, Christian Clark and producer, Angela Trevino. It reached the finals in the MoFilm spot competition.
Trulia . "Location"
Swing Advantage . "What If?"
I shot this evocative product spot for director, Glenn Martin. A black-out stage and stark edge lighting created the drama. Shot in color, Glenn isolated key elements in color to create more impact.
Ellis & Salazar . "Authentic"
Producer/Director, Glenn Martin, asked me to shoot this duo of quirky regional spots featuring a slightly off pitch-man.
Ellis & Salazar . "Choice"
Producer/Director, Glenn Martin, asked me to shoot this duo of quirky regional spots featuring a slightly off pitch-man.
Pest Management . "Doorbell"
I shot this trio of regional spots for producer/director Glenn Martin. With insufficient budget for locations and Glenn handling post-production, we shot these on green-screen (with a partial set for the "Doorbell" spot. After Glenn researched stock photos for the background plates, I lit the talent to match, assuring a seamless picture.
And, yes, that's me in the "Fast" spot.
Pest Management . "Fast"
"Multiple Personalities"
Tony Nguyen . "Stop"
One of a series of regional spots I produced, directed, DP'd, composited, edited, and sound designed - pretty much soup-to-nuts. Drawing on the over-the-top delivery of regional attorney spots, Tony and I stepped up the look beyond the typical production values of his competitors in the space.
KIND Bar . spec spot
Verizon . Blackberry Torch
Creative company, Invodo, hired director, Christian Remde, and me to shoot the live elements for the release of the Blackberry Torch smartphone.
"Golfsmith . Mission: Possible"
Designed to feel a bit 1960's, I concepted, produced, shot, mographed, composited, and edited this piece.
This was a one-off video done as part of a series of elements I produced for a Golfsmith sales event. It served as a humorous introduction for two sales executives who, as the video was wrapping up, appeared in the darkened room with flashlights and landed on stage with a big entrance.
I also produced and directed video, lighting, and sound for the live event presentation.
"Red 5 Studios . Firefall @ SxSW"
Media Producer, Noah Eichen, hired me to shoot event coverage for the Red 5 Studios Firefall booth at SxSW. A lot of handheld, some ad-hoc dolly moves atop the camera cart, and Noah''s tight editing resulted in this fast-paced event coverage.
Dell Pediatrics . "Brooke's Story"
Lyn Graft produced this profile of young Brooke, who is fighting cancer with the help of Dell Pediatric Center and Ronald McDonald house. I had the privilege of meeting Brooke and her mom and shooting these heartwarming images at the Austin Ronald McDonald house.
"Rise of the Indies . Stoic"
Produced and edited by Noah Eichen with Red 5 Studios, I field produced, directed, and shot this profile piece of indie game developer, Stoic Studios. Friend and longtime game developer, Billy Cain, stepped in as interviewer.
NanoWatt Design . GunDetect
NanoWatt Design was interested in testing the marketability of GunDetect – their deep learning computer vision system – in the consumer market. Tall Tale Pictures created their KickStarter video, campaign page, and home website. Here's the hard-hitting video Carla Siegle and I created.
Galactic Inquiry . Crazy Hud Worthington
CRAZY HUD WORTHINGTON wants to sell you a spaceship! And His Steal is Your Deal! Inspired by the hyper-kinetic antics of regional car salesmen like Cal Worthington, Tall Tale Pictures created this sketch comedic commercial for the weekly web show, Galactic Inquiry. (And, yes, that's me as Crazy Hud.)
Galactic Inquiry . Couple's Therapy
IN THIS COLD OPEN for the weekly web series, Galactic Inquiry, a young couple struggles with computer game addiction. All would be well… if the therapist didn’t have his own odd ideas.
Galactic Inquiry . Real Space Wingman
Being an interstellar space fighter would be real cool... if real space physics didn't keep getting in the way. A sketch from Galactic Inquiry.
TNRIS . GIS Ideologist
MEET GEOFF ISAAC STEWART, GIS IDEOLOGIST. He’s a man of his time and just trying to keep up in the Information Age. Richard Wade with the Texas Natural Resources Information System wanted something fun with which to open their annual conference; a mockumentary, shot in the style of The Office, complete with unflattering lighting, uncomfortable pauses, and inside humor. Tall Tale Pictures helped Richard refine his idea into an employee “profile” featuring the TNRIS team members, including one of our favorite Austin actors, Scot Friedman, in the title role of “Geoff Isaac Stewart – GIS Ideologist.”

Star Citizen . Motion Capture Session
As the marketing media producer for Cloud Imperium Games, I produced hundreds of outward facing videos to share the excitement and inside story of this hugely sucessful, crowd-funded project. Here, we cover the process of recording the body and facial movement of actors which will be converted into the animation of 3D game characters.
Star Citizen . The Music Score
As the marketing media producer for Cloud Imperium Games, I produced hundreds of outward facing videos to share the excitement and inside story of this hugely sucessful, crowd-funded project. Here, I combined footage from several international sources with a regional interview to tell the story of how the Star Citizen musical score was recorded.
Star Citizen . Model Topology
As the marketing media producer for Cloud Imperium Games, I produced hundreds of outward facing videos to share the excitement and inside story of this hugely sucessful, crowd-funded project. Here, we cover the process of recording the movement, musculature, and physical topology of a female model who serves as the source for 3D animated characters in the game.
CHAP Research
CHAP Research is a student-led, tech industry preparation program that helps high-school students learn advanced technical and leadership skills similar to a collegiate-level internship experience. Tall Tale Pictures, working under the docYOUmentary brand, produced this profile video featuring the students and the program's forward-looking benefits.
Army . "Dream Strong"
I shot this two-day run-n-gun production following Lt. Col. Check Walters about his daily routine with his medical corps. battalion
(stills and helicopter footage provided by client)
Cadre . Airmap
Cadre Media reached out to Carla Siegle and me to field produce the Houston segment of this case study. Airmap is a mobile app integrated with airport centers that provides automatic clearance of drone operator flight plans. We shot the airport flight operations and interview for this interesting and important safety tool.
Cadre . Airmap
WebsEdge hired Carla Siegle and me to field produce the interviews and b-roll of this profile piece for the City of Cedar Park. We shot the interviews and b-roll of the mayor, chamber of commerce personnel, and local business owners.
"Zombie Jesus" . short film
Production partner and writer/director, Carla Feldpausch, called on me to shoot, edit, and sound design this heartfelt short about universal love...
...and zombies.
"Withdrawn" . 48hr short film
Our 48-Hour Project team won the cinematography award for this short narrative written, shot, and edited in two days flat. With a five-ton grip truck, two cranes, and dolly at my disposal, I used a total of three lights, a bit of diffusion, and static shots for the entire shoot. The script really called for contemplative framing and constrained movement to support the isolated world the protagonist has created for himself.
"North Blvd." . short film
An emotional ride through Bethany's turbulent adoptive family leading, eventually, to the inevitable first phone call to her birth mother. This short film is the prelude to the feature length project currently in post. I shot, graded, and edited.
"Hard Water" . spec trailer
A quick shoot and color grade I did for director, "Ben Snyder." The goal; to imply a hot, dry world in which our characters are trapped.
"Cell: The Web Series" . narrative series
Excerpts of tension building and a fight-sequence conflict
When series DP, Iskra Valtcheva was unavailable for a re-shoot, producer, Mark Gardner, hired me to shoot the ending of this webisode series. He needed to step up the production value of the final story beats in order to blend more seamlessly with the next season's aesthetic.
In this final episode, the protagonist escapes a prison cell only to discover she has been held captive in a seemingly benign suburban neighborhood. But the truth runs deeper still.
"El Coyote" . spec trailer
Writer / director Jay Galvan and producer Jolyn Janis approached me to shoot a spec short for a feature. This dark scenario of drug runners (the "Coyotes" of the title) torturing a doctor and his family was designed to evoke the tone of the larger film to follow.
"One Hit Wonder" . spec trailer
I shot this web series spec short for writer/director Josh Frank.
"Sketch" . short
"Sketch" is a short film by writer/director, Christian Remde. The location, with its north-west facing corner, helped deliver a soft, open look to the piece. Coordinating our angles to the time of day to avoid the westering sun allowed us to shoot through the entire day. A couple overhead silks and Kino 4BANKS completed the look.
"Shroud" . feature film
First-time feature film writer/director, David Jetre, broke all the low-budget film making rules: no period pieces, no animals, no weapons or fights... "Shroud" is a super-natural western thriller shot on a shoe-string budget and available locations. Despite the limitations, David's clever use of locations, rented historical props, and Civil War re-creationists as the antagonists delivered the level of production quality called for in a period drama like this. I was honored to light and frame this picture.
"A Swinging Trio" . feature film
This first-time feature by writer/director, Kelvin Phillips pits a blocked writer with his successful movie producer wife... and her lover? Mamet-esque dialogue meets the tight locations and framing of a Woody Allan film.
Shot in ten days in the director's home and a local bar, I lit this for easy turn-arounds and to allow the actors to find shadows or light as needed by the story and their emotional place. The great-room was top-lit on the walls with a couple stand-mounted 1K fresnels bouncing off reflection (white or soft silver as needed) to project the "light" bouncing from the out-of-frame walls into the scene.
"In The Shadow" . feature film
Shot on the island of Culebra in Puerto Rico, this full-length narrative follows the dark path taken by a spiritual healer as his healings take their toll on his soul. A pick-up shoot on an interior set matched the exterior lighthouse location.
"Monster Job Hunter"
I gaffed this imaginative short by director, Yehudi Mercado, for DP, Jen White. I designed the train passing gag - two 2K open-face instruments pointing at a spinning mirror box.
And, yes, that's me as the "monstrous" boss.
Forever The Sickest Kids . "Too Young For This" . music video
I shot this tightly-concepted, counter-responsibility music video for director, Danny Drysdale over a couple days with only a couple helper-friends to move things about. Add a couple makeup artists for the junkyard kids gang and an enthusiastic junkyard staff to assemble our set with a forklift and we finished with a nice message video.
Rex Robards . "Whiskey Wrote This Song" . music video
I shot this dark tale of alcoholism and redemption for producer/director, Raymond Schlogel. The performance set was a defunct exterior nursery - the fans turned by hand by my very patient grips.
Los Super Reyes . "Todavia" . music video
DelRiot is the entertainment division of the delRio Agency. A full service advertising agency. Director, Bronson delRio hired me to light and shoot this music video about teenage love and loss.
Baby Bash feat. Pit Bull . "OuttaControl" . music video
DelRiot is the entertainment division of the delRio Agency. A full service advertising agency. Produer / director, Bronson delRio hired me to light and shoot this fun "club" music video.

Mini Stylz . "Why You Think I'm Trippin?" . music video
I shot this period project for producer/director, Robin Blesch.
Close Your Eyes . "Song For The Broken" . music video
Shot on a bitter winter day, director, Dan Dobi, chose a closed and broken grain facility as the setting for this metal band's performance piece. A fortuitous snow fall through open roof added just the right level of post-apocalyptic verite' to sell the look.
